This Oxford residence is a beautiful home on Town Creek. When the owners came to me, they had magazine clippings, plan book floor plans, and lots of good ideas. All those things helped me design a house that suits them. At their request, I also traveled to Ocean City to view some architectural details they had seen and liked and wanted to incorporate. My job was to take all those disparate features and styles they liked, and harmonize them into a home that incorporated those elements while also suiting their lifestyle.
The result was a beautiful new home overlooking Town Creek on Morgan's Point. This home has a central core where the rooftop belfry ringed with windows floods light into the second floor, and even into the first floor through an octagonal portal in the second floor. The home has a dominant central body in a Southern Colonial style that incorporates double porches on the front and rear. Off the main body are telescoping wings which lead to a Master Bedroom Suite on one end and Home Offices on the other end. Accents of lead-coated copper roofing further distinguish different areas and features of the home, and help bring a sense of history and permanence to the new home.
I assisted them through construction, answering questions and designing built-in cabinetry. After the home was built, they asked me back to design their barn/storage building. Our goal was to create a building that was functional for their needs, while having a resemblance to a real barn or carriage house. Its details and finishes complement and tie it visually to the main house, while it's location on the property suggests its function.
