This beautiful waterfront home presented a variety of challenges from the onset. At the time, BMA's were new, and as part of this project we had to establish the appropriate BMA setbacks from the water before we could proceed. Additionally, like many St. Michaels locations, the lot size is smaller which meant having to work within restrictive side setbacks, lot coverage limitations, and even having to follow the footprint of the former home in certain areas.
Because the owners liked certain things about the home that was removed, the new home incorporates those things, eliminated the things they did not like, includes the master bedroom on the first floor, and added a real flow and connection between the main living areas.
Inside the home are Australian Cypress floors, varying ceiling heights to provide room definition, and single-level living for the Owners. There are two upstairs bedrooms, and a guest room above the garage for visitors. The river room and living room are directly related with only arched passages, columns, and ceiling changes separating them, while a double-sided fireplace provides definition between those areas and the kitchen and dining room areas. The exterior uses Hardi siding and Azek trims and the roof has lead-coated copper roofing accents. The front elevation is designed so the center core of the house is reminiscent of the older St. Michaels cottages, with extensions from it to the left and right as if it grew out over time. Great neighbors and a great neighborhood complete the setting for this home.
