This Long Haul Creek residence outside of downtown St. Michaels sits at the mouth of the creek and looks across at the Miles River Yacht Club. What started out as a brown brick Spanish mission style ranch house was transformed into a beautiful home with many design touches that make it feel right at home on the Bay.
Because much of the original home sat within the 100' buffer, we had to obtain variances for some of the work, and had to make sure everything we proposed fell within the lot coverage limitations. We utilized much of the original footprint, with minor expansions and bump-outs here and there to add more interest. While some of the original home was left standing during the renovation, most was completely rebuilt.
Design features in the home include an octagonal River Room with details reminiscent of the nearby Hooper Straight Lighthouse, a dining room and sunroom with a barrel shaped ceiling of T&G wood that feels like the inside of an old sailboat cabin, and ship's ladder stairs to the Man Cave. It retains its single level layout, allowing the owners to fully use their house as they retire and age there. This home was also designed with energy efficiency in mind, using spray-foam insulation, geothermal heating and cooling systems, and high-efficiency windows. The exterior has low-maintenance Hardi sidings and Azek trims.
