The existing brick ranch house on this property did not take advantage of its great location and views of Long Haul Creek. After having seen one of our Martingham renovation projects, the Owner asked us to create a great room on the water side that could be used as a living area and dining area, and that would be open to the existing living room and kitchen. At the Owner's request, we were able to reconfigure and incorporate the existing cabinets into the new kitchen layout. Additionally, he wanted to create more outdoor living, so a covered porch area and an uncovered porch area were added too. Also, we expanded the master bedroom onto an existing screened porch, allowing the room to gain great views, a large walk-in closet and a large master bathroom.
Two main challenges stood out. First, incorporating the addition so it looked like it belonged on the brick ranch house. Second, creating the opening between the existing and the new. We used a 30' long, 24" tall triple beam to create one large opening. Now, the new rooms and pre-existing rooms flow as if they were one. With the existing rooms also being renovated during the project, the areas feel harmonious with each other. Along with the renovated existing square footage, the new spaces give the home a casual living feel and are a perfect size for the Owner's lifestyle.
