This Royal Oak home was designed to take full advantage of big-water views of Broad Creek. The owners purchased the vacant land, and had a rough sketch of a floor plan concept when we started design work. My job was to take that sketch, and work through it with them to create a home that flowed well, had good balance and proportion, and incorporated design features and styles they were fond of. The result is one of my favorite designs to date.
Being in the construction business, the owners managed the project themselves, with assistance from me when they could not be available or had questions or issues they wanted help with. While much of the exterior work was hired out to subcontractors, they did most of the interior work themselves. A lot of attention was given to the details, and it really shows.
Some of the interesting features of this home include a central foyer that has full water views when you enter the home. To one side of the foyer are the main living areas and river room and a bedroom/office. To the other side are the kitchen, dining, master bedroom, and a guest bedroom. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a central library/study room that serves as a meeting place for the upstairs guests. The exterior of the home uses Hardi sidings, Azek trims, pre-painted metal roof accents, and Andersen windows.
